Alle Menschen werden Brüder
The European Music Festival for Young people has been working with the "Alle Menschen werden Brüder"-device for over 60 years now. A team of an odd fifty co-operators manages to hand out basketfuls of joy and friendship to thousands of young musicians and vocalists within Europe and far beyond. It all comes true thanks to the non-competitive instrumental or vocal character of EMJ, its joy, its friendship, its fraternization, its hospitality and the voluntary efforts of hundreds of volunteers.
Year after year in the course of the last days of April and the first days of May, Neerpelt welcomes the most talented children's and youth choirs and musical ensembles and orchestras. One year it are choirs, the other year it are musical ensembles gathering in Neerpelt from all over Europe, but also from other continents to sing and play passionately before a professional jury and critical audiences in various evening or gala concerts. It truly is unique: a non-competitive evaluation where there are no losers, only winners. Participants receive a document to take home, with professionals advising them on what to work on to even do better in the future.
The participating groups – always over 100 – will undoubtedly find a wealth of new music and choral literature with each other. For many participants EMJ creates an excellent opportunity to exchange scores and meetings with other choirs and ensembles.
For more than 60 years 50 permanent co-operators have been involved in the preparations of the Festival on a day-to-day basis. Moreover a few hundred volunteers work extremely hard in the course of the festival days to please all participants. All together they are organically well-organized to offer a platform to choirs, ensembles, harmonies, fanfares and orchestras in order to have them discover each other's cultures. Thanks to the efforts of the board-members, the co-operators, the hosts and hostesses, and the host-families, youngsters from all around Europe are privileged to enjoy magical moments of warmth, joy, friendship and hospitality. The European Music Festival for Young People has contributed to peace, fraternization and understanding for more than 60 years now, thus creating feelings of hope, courage, lust of life and power to lift music and song to the highest level possible. Let's just call it unique, alright?
