The EMJ-organisers' annual nightmare, being a festival without participants, has fortunately turned out to be fake. Our Festival for Young People experiences a growing interest which means the 59th edition is not just an interlude on its way to number 60 but a highly valuable instrumental festival with participants from as good as all directions of the wind.
Over 100 instrumental ensembles from 22 countries have enrolled . They come from Europe but just as well from Japan, Mexico and from – for the first time ever – Colombia. More than 3300 young musicians will make Neerpelt submerge in an enthusiastic Sea of Music. It is a shame that a 24-harpist-ensemble from Italy will probably have to cancel their participation as transport and insurance cost too much for hem to travel. Such a pity for the eye has its claims too.
Moreover there is an ever growing diversity of music, going from old and classical music to HaFaBra, jazz and percussion and to folk and free instrumentation. The line-up varies from couples to impressive bands and symphony orchestras.
The 59th EMJ starts on Friday April 29 and finishes on Monday-morning May 2 with most participants travelling back home. All the details are on www.emj.be.
